CALIFORNIA TRIP

I really haven't been busy crafting this summer.  Spent most of the time in the pool with the grand kids as it was so hot.  The family did our yearly 2 week beach vacation in Wildwood NJ in July and we had a really great time.  We were home for 2 weeks and then Tom and I flew out to California for 2 weeks.
We spent the first week in Long Beach.  We went on the Queen Mary.
We had such an awesome tour guide.  He was very knowledgeable and funny, was quite a character.
We went to the Pacific Aquarium which was very interesting and walked along the marina.

We toured  Rancho Los Alimitos historic ranch and gardens

Toured the J.Paul Getty Museum and Villa where the gardens were stunning.

The fountains were all turned off and no water in the center due to the drought.

We went to Hollywood Blvd. and went to the Hollywood Wax Museum, Ripleys Believe It Or Not and Guiness World Records.
That's my head on the left.  We were watching Roma Downey from Touched By An Angel get her Hollywood Star on the Walk Of Fame.  Tom tried to get her photo, but there were just too many people blocking her.

Our second week we drove to downtown Los Angeles where we stayed at the Sheraton.  We were there for the NALC National Convention.  Tom is a delegate from his branch.  Our first day there while he was at the convention center for meetings, I took a Celebrity homes tour.  I saw a lot of HIGH gates and HIGH thick hedges.  Naturally the celebrities want to protect their privacy.  Our tour guide said that Bob Barker from the PRICE IS RIGHT is very friendly and if he happens to be outdoors when a tour bus comes through, he'll wave hello and might even let you take photos.  This is his home below.

This was Audrey Hepburns home.

Melanie Griffith lived here - see what I mean about the gates/hedges.

This one below is Charlene Theron's home.  Our guide said she is also very friendly.
Most of the homes we were shown were in gated communities so we weren't able to drive through.  The homes that were pointed out to us ( you needed binoculars to see them) were Charlie Sheen, Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, Sylvester Stallone, Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher (they live on the same estate, in different houses), and many more.
I can't recall who lives here, but I believe the guide said he is a record producer.
This was Bela Logosi's home.  Hard to see in the photo, but above the gated door and hedges it looks like gargoyles....they aren't....they are bats.

We went to Universal the 2nd day  That day was the MOST FUN we had the entire trip and the whole trip was wonderful, but this day we both felt like kids.   We did the studio tour which was very interesting and the special effects were FUN FUN FUN.  We went through KING KONG, FAST AND FURIOUS, was in a 'western town' where it all of sudden started to rain and a HUGE flood was coming at us.   We were in an special effects earthquake ( extremely scary).
We went on the JURASSIC PARK ride, THE WALKING DEAD ( I never screamed AND laughed so hard at the same time in my life!!)  and TRANSFORMERS.  We walked through HARRY POTTER but didn't have enough time to ride, as it was time to catch our shuttle back to the Convention Center.
We are going to try to go back in March 2017 so we can go to Universal again and do some things we just didn't have time to do or see.

Naples CA was my favorite this trip.
I fell in love with the canals with these palatial homes on either side.

Our next convention is in 2 years....in DETROIT.  Ugh.  What a disappointment after Los Angeles.
We lived in the area for 11 years, so we will know our way around at least.

  1. You've been on the go. Sounds like you've had a great time though. Detroit would be a let down after California.
