I forgot to take a frontal photo before I took these curtains down, but found these photos in one of my albums.

I've had these up for about 12 years.  I was ready for a change.  The blinds are 1 inch, aluminum and a yellow/green color.  UGLY.  They came with the house when we bought it and they were brand new at the time (34 years ago) so as much as I would have liked to, I couldn't bring myself to take them down and replace with white blinds.  Until last week.  They were in dire need of a good cleaning.  I got out a bucket of soapy water and a soft cloth and started to clean each slat one by one.  I got halfway down the right side and said "this is bull crap!".  So I had Tom help me take them down, and carry them into the tub.  This should be easier.  It wasn't.  They were too big for the tub and scratched the porcelain.  I still tried to wash them and used cupfuls of water to rinse them.  They just wouldn't come clean.  The dirt/dust was coming off, but several of the slat ends were bent (due to Tom not being careful opening and closing the sliding window) some were scratched and were still ugly as hell.  I threw in the towel, literally and had Tom put them out for the garbage this week.

I purchased new drapes and blinds from J.C. Penney.  The drapes are grommet topped, lined (light fabric) and ivory in color.  The blinds are dark faux wood 2 inch slats.

In late fall we plan to repaint ( I'm thinking of going a light brown - a fawn color) and install new carpeting.

What I currently have is far too light.  We've had it since Tom retired 8 years ago and we just can't keep it clean.  We have no pets, but we do have grown children/their spouses and the grandkids and sad to say, they can be messy.  Spilled food and drinks, 'forget' to remove shoes when they come in.  They've only had to do that for the last 34 years, how can you forget?  Just plain lazy. 😒
