This has to be the mildest winter we've had here in Pittsburgh in many years. We've probably had a total of 6-8 inches of snow so far this season. We've had quite a few days the past few weeks where it's felt more like Spring than Winter. I'm not complaining! :)
I've been busy painting up frames for more samplers. I have the 3 older grandkids today and they were kept busy drawing clowns and decorating them with markers, pom poms, moving eyes, buttons, yarn and whatever else they could find to use.

Have Been Busy With Stitcheries

I've been making Patriotic stitchery items to send to My Favorite Things in Leesville, LA Got these shipped out this afternoon along with the American Country Sheep Pillow from previous post.

Had a small mishap at dinner tonight. Salad was made, baked potatoes finished and I was just taking the stuffed crab shells out of the oven, when I burnt my hand and literally THREW the cookie sheet up in the air. Crab shells and crab meat all over the bottom of the HOT oven, floor and stove top. Just cleaned the floor last night, so scooped it up and put it on my plate, LOL
Hubby got the shells that didn't fall off the cookie sheet. My hand burns like the dickens but I think I'll live. Will triple up on the oven mits next time.

A Few Things I've Been Working On

Earlier in the week I made a Primitive Patriotic Bunny from a pattern by Tennessee Ridge Primitives. I have it listed on both Etsy and my Selling blog to see how it does.

I also made another raven ( Soft In The Head pattern). I wanted a pedestal for him to stand on and found 2 of these short fat spindles in my stash. They both looked like the one on the left. I painted the one on the right antique white, sanded parts of it and then rubbed some antiquing gel over it. I like how it turned out.

The raven isn't attached to the spindle yet, I'm still trying to decide if there is anything else I want to add to it first. I still have to rub him down with cinnamon and make a pair of eyeglasses for him. I'm also thinking I will try to make an old prim book to go along with it.

And finally, I just finished this American Country sheep pillow this morning. The stitchery pattern is by Home Berries. The pillow is about 11" by 8 1/2". The pillow back is a brown and black fabric.

I will be working on some more stitchery items this weekend.

This is the gingerbread doll I just finished up for a customer. She chose a snowman fabric for the apron and bow and snowflakes to be sewn onto the hearts on the apron. I added some German glass glitter for some sparkle.

A Few More Rag Trees, Another Mitten Pillow

Last week I made some more rag trees and another mitten applique pillow to send to The Brickhouse Craft Shop in Millersburg, PA The first pillow had more red in the homespun and the mitten was red. This one has more green and the mitten is green.

I'm currently working on a gingerbread doll for a customer and then hope to start making some
cookies for the Holidays.

Wanted to share this photo of my 2 year old grand daughter Bella. See that 'hat' ? Her Daddy tells me it's a candle holder that she pulled off the table and stuck on top of her head. lol His caption under the photo is 'Charlie Chaplin' although other comments said it looked like an early 1900's photo.

Special Order - Raven

I had a special order for a raven. I purchased Soft In The Head's Ulysses pattern. Love how he turned out. My customer didn't want a stand, just the raven, so he's sitting on one of my spindles for the photos.

Mitten Applique Pillow And Christmas Decorations

Finished up this Mitten applique pillow this evening. Happy with the way it turned out.

It measures 16"x15"

The appliqued mitten and snowman on a stick is done on tan felt. The snowman has French knot eyes, satin stitched nose and I've sewn itty bitty rusty bells on as 'buttons'. His scarf is embroidery floss.

The greenery is backstitched and the berries are French knots.

The mitten is made of burgundy felt and red, green and gold homespun. I stitched 2 snowflake buttons on the mitten.

I hand stitched everything to tan felt then hand stitched to the homespun pillow.

A problem I seem to have lately is that I make things to sell....but then I want one too!

It took Tom and I two days to take all of our Christmas decorations down from the attic and get everything put up. Tom takes care of all the outside 'stuff' and I put up the tree. When 4 year old Ayden heard I was putting up the tree, she found it hysterical and said "This I gotta see, Gramma is soooooo OLD" Ayden helped me for awhile yesterday but soon got bored and wanted to play on Doll House Maker on the computer. I finished putting the tree up but had to wait until today to decorate it. I had 4 sets of lights and not a one of them was working!

Tom picked me up four new sets today and this is our tree.

A good many ornies are ones I received in a Prim Mart ornie swap in 2008 & 2009 and some are ones that I made myself. I also like to hang little pine cones and bells.

The large wooden snowman is one I purchased at the Washington County Fairgrounds Craft show last year. The small spindle snowman is one I purchased last month on our Chicago trip.

The Santa screen I bought during our trip to Chicago as well.

Tom picked up the Christmas Teddies this summer at a flea market. They are brand new with the tags still on them for $5 each.

We have a mixture of 'prim' and 'new' decorations. Tom doesn't mind my prim as long as I don't mind items he likes for us to diplay too.

On the sofa table on the right is a see saw that lights up, that he bought for $2 at the flea market. On the end table is a musical carousel he also bought at the fleamarket for a few dollars. He thought the grandkids would like these.

This is in the dining room. Just a few things since it's a small room.

This was my Christmas Bunco gift last year. I thought it was pretty cute. Holds cookies for a few weeks and then on Christmas Eve when the family comes over, it holds dips and crackers/cheese.

Crafting With The Grandkids - Spool Ornies

Back in October, Terry's Treasures posted the spool ornaments she had made. I had commented on her post that I thought this would be a great project to do with my older grandchildren. They worked on them today with a little help from Gramma. I think they turned out really cute! The kids wanted to paint their spools but I talked them into using colored markers ( less messy). I purchased some Christmas themed scrap paper which I pre-measured and cut into strips for them. They glued these around the center of the spool. I bought red and green ribbon ( which we ran out of and substituted yarn) to thread through the spools and add the beads to. These ornies will be going home with the kids today for their own tree. I'm thinking I may make a few for my own tree, substituting homespun strips for the paper centers and rusty bells for the beads.

I have another WIP pillow. The applique part is finished, I just have to sew up the 'pillow cover' and stuff it. That's after I shower and make my coleslaw to take over to my daughter Carey's home. Stuffing is in the oven, almost ready to come out. I sent a big bowl home with Carey last night to stuff her turkey with and I always have to make extra so everyone can take their 'doggie bags' home for the next day.

My Rag Tree - & Kids Say The Darnedest Things!

The tree trunk is an old wooden candlestick.

Want to share with you something my 4 year old gd and I talked about a few days ago. She makes me laugh. :)

While bending over tying Ayden's shoes, my pacemaker happens to 'bulge'. She says " Gramma, is that a muscle?" I laugh & say "no". She replies " Is that your brain?" I laugh harder and say " no, sweetie, that's Gramma's pacemaker". "What does that mean?" "It's a little box that the Dr. put inside Gramma that helps with my heart beat. It has batteries in it...." " YOU RUN BY BATTERIES GRAMMA????!!!" LOL Makes me feel like the Energizer Bunny.

A Couple Projects Finished & WIP Chenille Snowman

Just finished up this 8x10 snowman stitchery this morning and this Homespun fabric Christmas Tree this evening.

It's made from a tree shaped styrofoam form. I took strips of homespun and twisted and hot glued them all around the tree. It took HOURS because I was trying to be very careful not to let the glue leak out ( very unsightly) and I have burnt fingers to prove it! lol
I then glued the tree to an old vintage wooden spool. I love how it turned out. This one is for sale on my selling blog. I'm going to make a larger one for myself.

I worked on my chenille snowman yesterday too. Got her eyes and mouth glued on and made her bonnet. I have some Christmas greenery and picks to add to her bonnet but need to pick up some Christmas wired ribbon first to wrap around the hat. The pattern is by Heidi Markish Designs. She needs one more rusty bell added to her body and a scarf with more greenery/decoration. Can't wait til she's finished. This baby is for 'me'!!

So very happy with all that I purchased yesterday. I can't believe the great deals I got! All were purchased at antique shops. Sorry the quality of the photos are poor, I took them with my cell phone so I could upload them right away.

This toy rocking horse I would have expected to pay at LEAST $20 for, possibly more. The price tag read $10, so I grabbed it up. It's 21 inches tall.

This angel stands 20 inches tall and was priced at $10.00 That's a tin pocket that I plan to fill with some Christmas 'stuff'.

This sled stands 47 inches tall - also priced at $10

Wooden Santa attached to a framed screen stands 36 inches tall and was priced at $12

And finally, the deal of the day!! This swag measures 35 inches long and the ORIGINAL priceon this was $74.95....................I got it for......drum roll please......................................$12 !!!!!!

These photos do not do justice. All items are just beautiful. I am tickled with my 'booty'.

All of the above items I bought at the Michiana Antique Mall in Michigan, five miles over the State line from South Bend Indiana.

I paid $12 for this cute snowman made from a spindle at the Maumee Antique Mall in Maumee Ohio. I forgot to measure him, but he's a nice size.

Tom and I are now in St. Charles, IL for the remainder of our trip. We'll hit up a few more antique places here but we are here mainly for the Chicagoland Antique Advertising Slot Machine & Jukebox Show. Getting ready to head on over to Gino's East for some awesome Chicago style deep dish pizza for our dinner.

On The Road Again....

Tom and I are currently in Maumee, Ohio. Our destination will be St. Charles, IL on Tues. We are road trippin' and antiquin'. We stopped in Ravenna and Medina Ohio this afternoon and while I saw several things I was interested in, they were either pricey or without a price tag, which drives me crazy!!!! They can't sell it to you without a tag and it's not like I can come back later. :(
There's a Joann Fabrics nearby, so we stopped in there and I bought a new hot glue gun, some burgundy plush felt ( for my snowman/snowwoman pictured below) a few fabric quarters ( for some more pin cushions) and a couple 1/2 yd. pieces of Fall fabric for pumpkins for next season. So much fabric was on sale, I could have went crazy! I remembered to bring my coupons and even brought a Michaels. I was told that Joannes no longer accepts them, bummer.
Anyway, I was all packed up and ready for our trip Friday night and Tom had a Pitt college football game to go to yesterday and my 11 year old gd Jordyn was spending the day with me. My initial plan was to go to Pat Catan's a craft store in my area and then take Jordyn out to lunch or dinner. The muffler 'broke' on my car so we were stuck sitting at home. Jordyn didn't seem to mind though. She 'chilled' all day, watching TV, listening to music on You Tube, and even took a 2 hour nap. While she was napping, I worked on this snowman.

I cut up an old candlewick bedspread for the body and filled the bottom with sand so it would stand on it's own ( about 3 cups). The pattern calls for using coffee beans for the eyes and mouth, which I don't have so I'm looking for something else to use ( besides buttons). The plush felt I bought will be used to make 'her' hat. Her nose is made using orange felt and is sewed on.
I will be looking for some greenery and berries to decorate her hat and scarf with. Tom doesn't often have much to say about the items I make, but he really likes this one.
I ordered an Italian hoagie for Jordyn and my dinner and we watched A Cinderella Story with Hillary Duff and Gulliver's Travels with Jack Black.
Tom and I will be going to Red Lobster for dinner tonight ( if there isn't a long waiting list) and I want to watch Once Upon A Time tonight. Tomorrow morning we will go to the Maumee Antique Mall for a few hours and then head on to South Bend IN to do more antiquing and spend the night.

A Couple Pin Cushions & Halloween Party

My pin cushion was looking a bit ratty so I decided to make a new one. After I made it, I made 3 more! One will be included in my selling blog pumpkin giveaway and the other 2 I listed on the selling blog. I thought these would make cute stocking stuffers alone, or include a pair of embroidery scissors, straight pins, thread and measuring tape for a gift for a family member or friend who likes to sew. How about a gift for your child's school teacher?

The fabric on the back is identical and also has a wooden button.

Tomorrow is a busy day. I will have 3 of the grandchildren ( they are spending the night tonight). My youngest grand child Bella just turned 2 yesterday and Mom and Dad are having a BIG party for her tomorrow. It is a combo birthday party/ Halloween party and everyone has to dress up!

I'm making a big roaster full of rigatoni to take to the party and will get that on in the morning. I will also be making up 4 year old Ayden Grace who is going as a lil' witch. Her brother Jonah is wearing a monster costume, so he's easy. Older sister Jordyn, 11 will be getting ready at home later as she has to cheerlead for their step-brother's playoff football game. I believe Jordyn is going as a cheerleader, but from what I could gather from Ayden, she might be a zombie cheerleader, lol. The birthday girl will be a princess ( of course!) and both her Mommy and Daddy are dressing as vampires. Mommy will be a more sexy version whereas Gramma plans to be a more goulish version of a vampire. Mommy wants to wear 'pretty makeup' though a bit heavier than normal. Gramma is thinking she's going to wear white and black makeup with dark circles under eyes, which comes naturally, lol. I borrowed my son-in-laws afro wig because I don't want to look like 'myself'. It is a little itchy, so I'm rethinking the wig. If I decide not to wear it, I'm going to go 'wild haired' with what little I have and spray a stripe or two of purple hair dye spray. I was looking for white, but couldn't find any. Tom aka Poppy is going as a 50's waitress. Yes, you read that right! We have a mannequin in our garage/gameroom that is wearing a shoulder length wig, poodle skirt, bowling shirt. Tom wore this outfit to a Halloween Party several years ago and was a HIT. Only a small handful of people at this year's party will have seen him dressed like this. I even cajoled him into applying makeup for the 'part'. The last time he sported a mustache, so it was hilarious. He shaved that off a few years ago. After Christmas, Halloween is my FAVORITE 'Holiday'. I still need to take photos of the front yard to post and I want to hunt up some old photos of Halloween outfits that Tom and I wore to parties or that I wore just to walk with my girls when they were young. I always seemed to either be a witch or a vampire.

FINALLY Kitchen is Finished - Before & After

Hanging the wall border was definitely a 2 man/woman job! I was able to get the 15 ft. roll up without having to cut a thing. Well, that's not entirely true, I was short 4 inches at the end, which was at this end of the kitchen, around the outside corner and I am so glad I bought a second roll. I was able to match the pattern without any trouble. It really stinks that I only needed 8 inches from it ( to match the pattern). But would have been worse had I not had that second roll. Can't sell it since it's been opened and cut, but I'm searching for some ideas on using it for crafts. One idea was to wrap some around a can ( if I can find the right size) and turn it into a utensil holder for the counter.

I'm still making pumpkins believe it or not, lol. One of the shops I sent my last batch to wants more :) I started a snowman face pillow with a large carrot stuffed nose ( sits sideways on it's face) and having a dickens of a time getting it attached. I want to sew it on, but my needles aren't long enough to go through the front of the head, to the back. I really don't like the idea of hot gluing it on, but that may be what I will have to do. I used Warm 'n Natural for the head and homespun for the nose.

Fabric Pumpkins & Inside Decorations

Sorry the photos aren't clearer. I took them with a cell phone instead of the camera.

I've had a nasty head cold all week and spent the majority of my time resting on the couch but when I did have a spurt of energy, I would make a pumpkin. This is what I have so far. These will be going to Millersburg, PA I want to send some to Louisiana too since I haven't sent anything there for several months.

This is my Halloween Tree that sits on a sofa table in the living room. Not sure if I will add anything else to it or not. I was going to make some mini candy corns to hang if I have some time this weekend.

I purchased a leaf garland and made this centerpiece for my dining room table.

I wrapped and attached it to a large twig wreath and added some pip berries. I painted a wooden candlestick dark brown and just sitting on top of it is a grubby battery operated candle.
I ended up moving it into the living room and put the candle inside a glass hurricane lamp.

Tom put up our outside decorations last week and I was going to take a picture but it's been raining so that will wait until another day. He picks up a lot of 'his' decorations at the flea markets. Most items look brand new and he gets them for practically nothing.

Is the kitchen border up yet you might ask? Nope. Still waiting for a good day when I'm not sick or not watching grand children all day. I'm enjoying my 'new' cabinets though!

Oh Why Oh Why....

....Am I always making more work for myself? I spent the entire day yesterday sanding, priming and painting those 5 cabinet doors. It takes HOURS to do this. I was up until 11:30 pm before finally putting everything away. The paint was finally drying and I held one up to take a look at it and nearly cried. Pieces of the roller had come off unseen by me and dried into the paint. I had laid one door down on newspaper, and it must have still been tacky because newsprint stuck to it!! UGHHHH!!! So an hour ago after the last grand daughter left for home, I brought out the doors and the sanding block and took out my frustration on both sides of all of them. I don't dare use the same roller again, so Tom is going to pick me up a couple new ones when he's out in the morning.
Since I can't paint them tonight, I think I will attack the remaining underlayer of wall paper border and paint the section above the stove and sink area for the new border to go up. The border isn't quite as wide as the old one was, so I do need to paint.

Shhhhhhhh do NOT tell Tom what I found this afternoon. It was an UNOPENED roll of the EXACT wall paper border that I had up before. I had been looking online for it with no luck, which is why I went ahead and bought a NEW border. Now I am not going to need it. Is anyone interested in purchasing it for $10.00 plus shipping? I paid $27.99 for it. Here is a pic of what it looks like.

Finally Got Results

Tom and I took a trip to Lancaster, PA and Atlantic City for 5 days, just returned home last night. When I got home, checked my voice mails and there was one from the Dr. yesterday regarding my test results. They were both normal. So I have no clue what was causing my pain/distress but it's gone now and I am relieved that nothing serious was found. My sugar glucose is up I'm told and next time I go in for blood work, they may have me do a glucose tolerance test since Diabetes runs in my family.
We had a great time on our little trip. I didn't buy anything 'big' in Lancaster, just a few items to decorate with. The weather report was calling for rain the entire time we were away but the weather was great! We walked the boardwalk every morning before brunch. We saw the show Beatlemania Now, went to the Comedy Club and IMAX theater ( all at Tropicana) to see Contagion. Good movie! Our first night, we went out to sit on a bench on the boardwalk and it was very foggy & kind of spooky. Tom had me in hysterics. We saw two walkers come out of the fog with only one arm swinging. He leaned over and whispered to me that they were seaweed creatures. You could tell because only one arm swung while the other stayed immobile. You would not believe how many people we saw that did NOT swing BOTH arms as they walked. Tom said they were either Seaweed Creatures or doing the Boardwalk Shuffle.
I guess you had to be there,LOL
No grand kids today, so I am sanding, priming and painting more cabinet doors and hopefully have them hung by tonight. Then I only have 2 more cabinet faces to do, one door and 4 drawers. I had Tom put some ivy decals on the front of the sink since he has more experience working with them than I do. Took this pic with cell phone - cabinets look more white than sage green.

Thank you for all the well wishes. I did have the ultra scan done on Friday. My Dr. doesn't go into the office on Mondays so she should have the results today. The only problem is NOW I feel good. All the pain is totally gone. I'm relieved to be feeling good again, but sure would like to know what was causing all that pain.

Not Feeling Well

Haven't done any more work on the cabinets since Sunday night. I awoke very early Monday morning ( around 3 am) with bad stomach pains. They continued all day and night and then the pain started to radiate up into my chest and back, up to my shoulder blades. The pain would not abate so I took 3 Tylenol and finally was able to fall asleep. Yesterday the pain was still there so I went to my Dr. She's thinking gall bladder or possibly pancreatitus. I had blood work done yesterday and have an abdominal ultra scan scheduled for tomorrow.

Scarecrow Makedo

I had a wonderful visit with my sister Diane. Her visit went by so fast. Five days seemed more like only two. Trying to get her to come back for a week around Thanksgiving as she has 2 weeks vacation. I was going to try to work on the remaining kitchen cabinets today, but I had the 3 oldest grand kids and thought better of it. Instead I decided to work on a couple scarecrow makedos that will be traveling to Millersburg, PA for consignment. One is finished:

I had planned to use some raffia for his hair but couldn't find the bag, I was so sure I had at least a half bag left. I opted to try some yarn and while I prefer the raffia, I guess it doesn't look half bad. He is attached to a base/spindle. At the bottom of the base I attached some Autumn berries, Spanish moss and a fabric pumpkin.

If things go well tomorrow I do plan to do some work on the cabinets. I'm afraid if I wait too long, I won't want to work on them, lol. I LOVE them....but it's so much work. Can't wait until they are finished.

I'm thinking it's been way too long since I had a giveaway. I'm thinking a scarecrow makedo similar to the one above. Keep tuned and have a great weekend!

Kitchen Makeover - Halfway Done

Whew! Painting the kitchen cabinets is taking me much longer to do than I anticipated, lol. Of course the only time I can work on them is in the evenings after dinner and by 9 pm I've had it and clean up for the night. The first 4 doors that I painted and hung I took down and resanded and repainted. I wasn't happy with them. I had used 6 inch foam rollers and that was a HUGE mistake as little pieces of foam would break off and imbed into the paint. I went back to Home Depot and bought 7 inch SMOOTH rollers, that resemble regular paint rollers. The results were MUCH better.
This is how far I've made it since Thursday night.

I'm taking a break for several days since my sister Diane came to visit me ( from Michigan) and will be here through Wednesday. :) Since working on the cabinets I have not had any time to do any crafting, but with Diane here, who is a crocheter, chances are we will work on our individual projects together while catching up and enjoying a few toddies! ;)
I'm having the 'big kids' and grand children over on Sunday for a final summer 'picnic' and pool party before we close it up for the winter. It's supposed to be a very HOT weekend.

PS for the reader who was wondering how Tom painted the range hood: After cleaning off the hood to remove all grease, he masked off the silver areas on top and the strip on the front. He then sprayed a primer paint on the hood and when that was completely dry, he painted over that with black gloss.

Difference In Cabinet Handles

This is a before photo of the cabinet handles.

It's hard to tell what the original color was supposed to be.

After we soaked handles in denatured alcohol and scrubbed with a green scrubby pad.

We did the same with the hinges

One door left to go up tomorrow morning. It's drying and then I can get started on the bottom cabinet next to the stove. That one has a drawer and one cabinet.

I'm really mad at myself. I LIKE my green wall paper and the border above the cabinets/sink area. I like them so much, that I didn't want to get green paint on them and taped them off with masking tape. When I went to pull the tape off.........the green wall paper ripped!

If you look close enough, you can see the ripped area above the cabinets. It's not fixable, so I've been searching for a new border.

I've decided not to put wall paper back up, will paint the same as the wall color and then put up a NEW border. I've found a couple possibilities.

A Start On Kitchen Cabinets

As you can see, I took off these cabinet doors and hardware to get ready to start painting. First, I used a sanding block and sanded down the cabinets, wiping with a clean rag afterwards. Then I sponged on some denatured alcohol to remove any remaining 'dirt' and let dry. The next step was to paint on some primer/sealer and then my Prairie Sage.

I had bought one handle pull to see how I liked it with this color and I was IN LOVE with it. Turns out I bought the wrong thing, it was a drawer PULL. I thought my handles were 3" from center to center, but they were 2 7/8" and the only recourse would have been to putty one of the holes and drill in new ones. Tom didn't want to do that. He liked the original handles. We compromised. I dipped them in the denatured alcohol for about 5 minutes and 'let' him clean them up with a green scrubbie. They look like copper now and we both really like them.
Some people only paint the outside of their cabinets and leave the insides go, but I felt if I was going to all this trouble I wanted them done inside and out. Besides I have a whole gallon of paint. Tonight I'm going to work on the doors and hang them tomorrow. I'm starting from one end of the kitchen to the other. This is going to take me forever, lol. Hope you like my kitchen makeover so far.

Kitchen Makeover

BEFORE

As you can see, I was living with the original stove ( 1964 GE Aqua Electric Range) and original counter top that was white with gold specks. The gold specks have all mostly 'disappeared' and I was constantly having to clean them with bleach to remove coffee/tea stains. We've been living here since 1984 and the last 8 years or so the stove's heating elements kept having to be replaced and if chicken ordinarily had to be cooked for one hour, it took over two hours in mine. Cakes only cooked on the top and outsides, never in the middle. I'd been BEGGING for a new stove for years but hubby insisted this one was 'fine'. My daughter Carey and her husband Ammar moved into their newly built home 4 years ago and recently purchased a new ceramic flat top stove and granite counter tops. They gave me their old ones and Ammar installed them for me last week.

DURING

The counter top is a dark green and lighter green ( similar to sage green). Look how NASTY my cupboards look now. LOL. I went out and bought some paint to redo them. The color is called Prairie Sage. You can see I tore down the dark green wall paper that was behind the stove and sink. Tom painted the wall temporarily, as I wanted a ceramic back splash put in. He also painted the almond colored range hood black.

Ammar put up ceramic tile for me today. There's still an area between the sink and kitchen window that needs done, and that will be finished tomorrow and then everything grouted.
I hope to get started on painting the cupboards this weekend. I bought my paint this morning along with the sanding block, sponge rollers and denatured alcohol. This way I already have them in the house when I'm ready to get started. Below is a sample of the paint color and the hardware I'm going to use.

I plan to purchase this swag to hang over the window to bring in more light. Tom says I like to live in a cave, LOL It has tiny green dots throughout the white part.

I will post a couple more photos once I get started on the cabinet painting. Wish me luck, this will be my first time doing this.

GINGERBREAD DOLL WITH PEPPERMINT LOLLIPOP

Just listed this lil cutie on my selling blog. She measures 14 inches tall. Her peppermint lollipop measures 7 1/2 inches tall. $25 + shipping and she can be yours or would make a great gift.

The past two days felt more like Fall weather, which I LOVE. Today is a bit warmer than I'd like but we are going out to our daughter's for a 'party' and after sunset, they seem to get cooler temps than what we get here, so I'm looking forward to it. I have a big roaster full of rigatoni to take. There's going to be Gyros ( my SIL rented a Gyro machine), a variety of salads, instead of pulled pork - pulled chicken for sandwiches, Teriyaki chicken wings, veggies and dips, hot buffalo chicken dip, a variety of desserts and cocktails! I'm looking forward to trying the chocolate martini my daughter raves about. :)

Gingerbread Doll #2

I finally finished Sally's 2nd gingerbread doll. It's been difficult to work on it continuously so took longer than I anticipated. Sally's been a sweetie and told me to take my time, but I hate to keep anyone waiting too long. Hope to get started on one today to add to my selling blog.

My friend and next door neighbor Nancy and I started walking 2 miles at least 4 times a week in June. We like to walk at 9 at night at a local schools track. We were doing really well, considering the both of us are so out of shape. Then I went on vacation for 2 weeks end of June and when we got back, the weather was stifling hot and very humid that neither of us had the energy or inclination to walk. Last week we sucked it up and started again. Unfortunately, we were both huffing and puffing after one mile. Now we're up to 1 3/4 miles. I believe by next week we'll be back up to 2 miles. Unless the 90's and humidity pays us another visit. I'm so looking forward to some nice Fall weather temps.

Gingerbread Doll

Sally has decided she'd like another one, so the second one will have different clothing and bow. The most difficult part for me was hand sewing the head on. Hopefully the second time around will be a little easier. I think I'll also make one for my selling blog and another to send on consignment to see how they do.

A Nice Quiet Week

Darlene was very happy with the Frog Doll I made for her to give to her daughter. I have another order for a Gingerbread Doll from Sally, one of my daughters old friends from high school who collects gingerbread dolls. I ordered another pattern from Sweet Meadowsfarm called 'Cookies Anyone?'. It's an adorable gingerbread doll.
I am 'on vacation' again, only at home this time. No grandkids to watch this week as one grand child is in Florida with Mom and Dad for a week and the other 3 grand kids are home with Mom for 2 weeks while she is on vacation. I had all the grand kids the last 2 weeks and while I hate to admit it, I was wore out come Friday! I've been catching up with some housework, reading and lounging in the pool. This morning I have an appt. with my cardiologist and then plan to start work on the Gingerbread doll and some more pool lounging.

Special Order Request For A Customer

A customer ( Darlene) requested that I make a special momento for her daughter using scraps from her childhood blankey. She was hoping to have this for her daughter's wedding July 23rd ( 2 days ago). My thoughts were I might be able to make a 'quilted' pillow ( I've never quilted anything in my entire life!), or a framed sampler incorporating the blanket scraps into it and embroidering a special message from Mom.
About 2 weeks after I talked to Darlene, I received the scraps in the mail. Not at all what I thought they would be. See photo below.

I was at a total loss what to create with these. I called my customer and told her I just didn't know how I could make anything with these pieces. Darlene explained that over the years her daughter would tear off pieces and give them to her for 'remembering' and she wanted to surprise her daughter with something made from or with them. So we put our heads together. She was thinking a Christmas ornament. I was thinking, no how, no way. She mentioned a pillow, but all I could see in my mind was using the pieces as possible 'fringe' along the edges of the pillow - but there really wasn't even enough for that. She said her daughter loved FROGS and the color PURPLE. When she was a child they would sing a song 'Hold me, Hold me'. She mentioned a doll and maybe I could use the scraps for hair. So I'm thinking....doll....frog. I can make a Frog doll! I went searching for some patterns and fell in love with one from Maureen Mills of Sweet Meadows Farm. I sent a link to Darlene and she loved it too. I purchased the pattern but wasn't able to get started on it right away because we were getting ready to leave for our two week vacation. I was sure that when we got home, I'd be able to have it finished and sent in time for the wedding. I had a whole week after all. You know what they say about best intentions? #1 - I had my 3 older grandkids for the next 2 weeks for 13 hours a day as my daughter, their mom had to go to Oklahoma for work related training classes. Their dad didn't get home from work until almost 8 pm and the kids were restless and bored and trying to keep them occupied all day was beginning to get tiresome. Thank God, we have a swimming pool! I got the frog pattern cut out and sewed and stuffed and painted in between the pool, cooking meals and entertaining the kids. Below is a photo of the frog - eyelids are not yet finished. I was leaving that for last. You can see the fabric I chose from my stash for the dress and pantaloons to the right of the frog. Not a lot of purple, but enough.#2- Just when I wanted to start sewing up the clothes, my sewing machine starts to give me trouble. UGH. I had to email Darlene to let her know there was no way I could have the frog doll done and mailed in time for the wedding. She is such a sweetheart and very understanding and said that was no problem, she'd just keep it and give it to her daughter for Christmas.

Yesterday, after much fooling around with my sewing machine I finally got it to start sewing again. I have no idea what I did so sure hope it continues to work........even though Darlene is in no hurry now for the doll, I will not keep her waiting any longer. The doll is FINISHED as of today. It will be shipped out tomorrow.
The only thing I could think of to do with the scraps for the doll was to make a bow on the dress.

I did make a pillow with the words HOLD ME , HOLD ME and also added some musical notes to depict 'singing'. I also attached 2 bows from the blankey scraps in 2 corners.

I still had several blankey scraps left and didn't have a clue what to do with them. I decided to make a 'memory bag' for the Frog doll and stuffed it with the leftover blankey scraps. It has a button closure and strap that I've sewn to the shoulder of the dress so it won't fall off. I did complete the eyelids this morning which you can see in the last photo.

The finished doll. Darlene hasn't seen it yet, I hope she loves it and is satisfied with what I've done.

I hope her daughter loves it too!

Update On Mr. D. & Wildwood NJ

Mr. Krazy ( aka Tom) and our youngest daughter Nicki (30) left for Wildwood NJ ( sea shore vacation) yesterday morning. We arrived about 1:30 pm, and after we unloaded the truck and unpacked and put things away ( 2 hours later) we relaxed at the motel's swimming pool. We headed down to the boardwalk at 8 pm for an hour and then went back to our room to change into our tennis shoes. Nicki and I took a 2 mile walk. Hoping I can get her to do this with me every night, but it's not looking good, LOL.
Mr. Krazy and I were up early this morning and walked along the beach for a mile. It was overcast and more on the cool side, but perfect for me. By noon it was getting sunny and we all headed for the beach ( a block from our motel) and spent a couple hours baking in the sun. The ocean was awesome, a little cold when you first got in, but didn't take long to adjust to it. I will only go knee deep and let the waves slam me. I've watched too many shark movies to go in any deeper, lol.
I received an email from my friend/next door neighbor Nancy this afternoon re: Mr. D. He did NOT have a heart attack.
Mr. D. came home yesterday,a little weak. He came down to thank us. Evidently that goofy guy had something added to that bottle of scotch and he had some kind of reaction.

Mr. Krazy says yeah, he had a reaction all right, he passed out DRUNK!
They were apparently drinking the scotch straight from the bottle. I'm glad to know he did not have a heart attack, but I can't help but wonder what Mrs. D. might have thrown at him once she got to the hospital and found out he wasn't dying. After all, if she could throw a sausage at a 12 year old child because she thought the price was 'outrageous', there's no telling what a drunken husband would get hit with.

A True Story

A little background first. A neighbor and his wife Mr. and Mrs. D have lived 5 doors down from us since 1984. They never had children and from what I understand there is no other family left. The Mrs. had to have open heart surgery several years ago and her husband is retired. He walks their dog every day and has become 'friendly' with my husband. Recently he told my husband that his wife was not doing well and was back in the hospital.

This morning around 10 am I was checking for the mail and we didn't have anything yet. Our reg. guy is normally here by then on Saturdays. About 20 minutes later I hear HELP HELP....but wasn't able to tell where it was coming from because we live in a 'valley' and it could have come from anywhere. I was still in my PJ's and my husband had just left the house in his truck to go mail some bills and put gas in the truck since we are leaving for vacation in the morning.
Not a minute after he left, the phone rings and it's him calling me on his cell phone. He said he just saw Mr. D laying in his front yard, he looked 'dead' and there were quite a few neighbors standing around. He said the ambulance and a fire truck were just now coming up our hill. He had to hang up so he could move his truck over. He didn't stop since there were so many other people around.
My next door neighbor Nancy ( my walking partner) said she had just gotten home from working 1/2 day and saw all the people down the street, so she walked down to see if she could learn what had happened. Nancy's husband Bob said that's why our mail was late today, the letter carrier told him he had been talking with Mr. D for at least 20 minutes until a neighbor ( who we will call Crazy Man) who lived up the hill from Mr. D stopped and continued the conversation with Mr. D. That's when the letter carrier left to finish his route. So within the next 5 or 10 minutes, Mr. D. collapsed.
Nancy said Crazy Man was saluting Mr. D ( as if they were in the Armed Forces) and talking to 'the sky' ( praying?) He was pretty loud, I could hear him from my house, just couldn't make out exactly what he was saying. I thought someone was having an argument. Crazy Man told the ambulance driver that Mrs. D was in the Hosp, he told the driver which one, and that's where they took Mr. D. At first he didn't appear to have a pulse, then it was very weak.
In the meantime I had taken my shower and got dressed. My daughter Carey treated me and herself to a pedicure. When we got back, my husband gave me some more info.
When we had heard HELP HELP....it was Crazy Man, who was saluting and talking to the sky. My 16 year old neighbor across the street was out walking her dog and went down to see what was going on. That's when she saw Mr. D laying in his yard. The crazy guy had been drinking ( Scotch, we heard ) and didn't have a cell phone on him, so the 16 year old called 911 on her cell phone. By this time the other neighbors had appeared. Mr. & Mrs. D's dog was in the house and everyone wanted to know what to do about him since both owners were in the hospital. Nancy works for a vet and has 2 dogs of her own, so she said she would make sure he was fed and walked and let out to do his business. She went home to fix her husband lunch and a half hour later went back down the street and let herself in Mr. D's house. ( no one had a key, and the front door had been opened, so when the ambulance left, she just pulled the door shut). She goes into the house and is opening cupboards to look for the dog food. She was talking to the dog and then she hears

WHO IS IN MY HOUSE?!!!! Coming from downstairs ( basement). She said she nearly had a heart attack herself ....it was Mrs. D!!!!
She was NOT in the hospital. She had been sleeping on the sofa down in the basement rec room. She never heard all the commotion out in her front yard, didn't hear the fire truck or ambulance. Never heard people in the house searching for a phone number to get hold of her ( or a nurse at the hospital where everyone thought she was).

I saw Nancy and her husband Bob getting out of their car a little while ago and I yelled over.......WHO IS IN MY HOUSE......and doubled over laughing. She said when she heard that she nearly P*SSED herself, LMAO.
No one seems to know when Mrs. D. got home from the hosp. Couldn't have been too long ago. Hope Mr. D. will be ok. He's a really nice guy. Mrs. D I'm not too sure about, she threw a sausage at my eldest daughter when she was in grade school, but that's another story.

Americana Eagle Wreath

You remember the 1776 eagle I made a short while back? I just wasn't happy with it 'all alone'. I decided to make a wreath with it and this is how it turned out. I'm happier with it now.

I wired the eagle onto the wreath, as well as the red, white and blue pip berries. The flag is stuck down into the wreath and tied off with a stained cheesecloth bow.

This was too funny - last night after I took my walk hubby asked me if I'd started packing clothes for our 2 week vacation yet. I told him not yet. We already have boxes packed with toiletries, condiments, paper plates, etc. He had NO CLUE that I had a guessing contest on my blog yesterday and the next words out of his mouth were " don't forget your hat, I paid $20 for that!!" LMAO. I was actually looking at straw hats in Walmarts on Saturday and there was one hat I was interested in for $8 but I put it back.....if you all laugh at me, I'm going back to get it!!! LOL

I purchased this hat at a craft fair on the boardwalk in Wildwood NJ last summer. The vendor was wearing one and it really looked cute! So hubby bought me one. I wore it at the pool and down to the beach ( my scalp tends to burn pretty bad from the scalding sun there). It was several hours later that my hubby, daughters, their significant others AND my 3 older grandchildren laughed hysterically at me!!!! I was so embarrassed that I swore I'd never wear it again and hubby says I better wear it this year because it cost him $20 LOL

A Couple Santa Sacks

I finally finished up all the stitcheries to send to Millersburg and now I really DO have to finish up the Americana Eagle. I doubt I'll be making any more anytime soon, this is not a project I am overly fond of, lol although they do look nice when finished.

I just finished up these 2 Santa Sacks that were a special order.

They have white cording to gather them together and there are 4 rusty bells on each sack's cording. They are about 17 x 20 although one is slightly larger.

When I wasn't sewing I was enjoying our pool and getting some sun. It's been a very relaxing weekend so far. This afternoon we are going to our eldest grandaughter's dance recital. She's 11 going on 16.

A Couple More Samplers I Finished Today

What I'm Working On AND Having trouble Posting Comments?

I had to set aside my 2nd eagle before I set it on fire. I royally messed up the painting on the body and tried to fix it but it was useless so I tossed it. The wings turned out fine, but I thought I better walk away from it for awhile and work on something else. This is my something else. This sampler will be one of the items in the box that will be traveling to The Brickhouse in Millersburg, PA.

I think I'll do one more sampler before returning to the eagle. I had planned on making a 3rd one to go to Louisiana but that's not looking good at the moment, lol.

If you are traveling this holiday weekend, drive safely! We aren't going far, just to a cookout at a friend's home on Sunday and another cookout at my sister-in-law's who lives down the street from us on Monday.

Americana Eagle

I'm still working on some Americana things and just finished up this eagle, a pattern by TRP.

I have two more to work on, then moving on to something else.

Today is my salon/spa day with daughter Carey ( gift from her and her husband for Mother's Day). Looking forward to some pampering!

My sister Diane will be leaving to go back to Detroit tomorrow morning. We've had a very relaxing and enjoyable visit. While she's crocheting a blanket for her grandson and some snowflakes for my snowmen, I've been working on my Miss Liberty and Eagle crafts. My daughters come over in the evenings and we reminisce and laugh and have some wine or Kahlua. We've gone shopping a couple nights and out to dinner a few times. Tonight is another dinner out. I hate to see her leave and hope she can come back for another week before summer ends. She came on the Megabus. It only cost her $2.50 round trip!!

Miss Liberty Shelf Sitter And The Sexy Chicken Cut

A couple days ago I went through my Americana patterns, was disappointed to find that I didn't have quite as many as I thought! But I decided to make this one and love her! This one is currently for sale on my selling blog.

A few Saturdays back, Tom picked me up a 4 drawer filing cabinet at a flea market so I could organize my craft patterns in it. It was missing the hanging file folders and frames to set them on. I had been pricing them at Office Depot, etc. and eBay, and I did end up ordering some used file folders for a really good price and a few days later I ordered 4 frames. The frames got here first and I was so disappointed. They are way too big. Now I have to return them or try to resell them. Today Tom went to the flea market and bought two organizers for $1. They fit into the cabinet perfectly! Hopefully he can find two more and I'll be set.

My first box of creations arrived at the Brickhouse Craft House yesterday and Patti told me that one of my stitcheries already sold! Woo Hoooo! It's my ABC stitchery that I've had first in my online store ( now expired) and then on my selling blog for a total of one year. It just didn't move. I had about given up on it ever selling.

4 year old Ayden wanted to take a picture of Gramma so I decided to let her take a couple pics of my HAIR so you could see the 'Sexy Chicken' cut. This is just using mousse, blow drying and using a sculpting gel and my fingers. No comb or brush.

This one is using mousse, blow drying, small curling brush, finger styling and a bit of sculpting gel.

This is the shortest my hair has ever been and I love how easy it is to take care of now.

Prim Cats

Finished up the prim cats this afternoon. The black one is listed on my selling blog, one will be traveling to Millersburg, PA and the other to Leesville, LA . They are adapted from a pattern by Tennessee Ridge Primitives. Pockets are filled with Sweet Annie, pip berries and cranberry Gypsy grass.
Wondering if I should make more cats ( I have several different patterns) or move on to something else................

Hope you moms had a wonderful Mother's Day. My eldest daughter Deana treated me to lunch at Cracker Barrel and then we both had pedicures and manicures done. Today my youngest daughter Nicki took me shopping for some 'summer' tops. On the 21st, my son-in-law is treating his wife ( my middle daughter Carey) and me to a day at a salon/spa. We'll have facials, pedicures, manicures and a hand treatment that involves paraffin wax.
I would have to say that getting a pedicure and manicure is my favorite way of getting pampered.

2 More Mammys & My Bella

Just finished these 2 gals up this morning. These will be sent out on consignment. I've been trying to make 3 of everything, one to add to my selling blog, and 2 to travel.

Today I'm working on Prim Cat shelf sitters. I was stuffing one last night and got a little bit too exuberant with my stuffing tool and put a hole in the cat. AARGH! Not fixable so have to start all over on that one.

Wanted to share a pic of my 18 mo. old grandaughter Bella. She has been driving me crazy wanting to get on the computer. Usually I hold her while I check my emails, etc. and she's always hitting different keys or closing out the window on me, lol. She literally cries to get on all by herself. If I try to help her with the mouse, she pushes my hand away. So yesterday I decided to put her in her booster chair and give her full reign on the 'puter. She was in her glory AND while she was 'putin I was able to work on those mammys. As you can see, she doesn't need my help with the mouse, she's got that down very well. She knows to turn the wheel to scroll. She likes Face Book so she can see all of Gramma's family photos.

In my previous post I mentioned that I visited Patti at The Brickhouse in Millersburg PA on Wednesday this past week. Patti has just invited me to consign my crafts at her shop today! Can you say WOOO HOOOOO!!?

This is Martha Mammy - adapted from a pattern by Lucy's Lazy Dayz. I just listed her today on my selling blog and will be making at least another one to send to The Brickhouse.

Tom bought me a 4 drawer filing cabinet at the flea market yesterday for $18. I plan on using it to file all my crafting patterns. It's still in the back of my car, lol. Tom had help putting it in there at the flea market but it's too heavy for him to get out by himself and I'm not permitted to lift anything heavy ( health issue) so we have to wait until tomorrow when my daughter's boyfriend can help Tom get it out and into my craft room. It's a brown color and has some paint splatters on it, but when Tom gets some time after he's done working on his own projects, he's going to sand it down, primer it and paint it black for me.

Had A Great Trip - A Chuckle & Sexy Chicken

After we left Atlantic City, we drove to Lancaster, PA for the day and spent the night. I picked up several things for myself, like flickering candles, greenery to drape over shelves, some fabric.

On Wednesday morning we drove to Carlise, PA where I made arrangements to meet Teresa from Teresa's Primitive Treasures. She took me to Millersburg PA to meet Patti from Porch Sitting Time and to visit Patti's shop called The Brickhouse Craft Shop. Darn, I wish I had packed my camera, Patti's shop may be small in size, but it's huge in primitive coziness and she has lots of wonderful crafts made by herself and local artists. Teresa is one of those local artists. I fell in love with a mouse pin cushion and a sheep and it so happens they were created by Teresa. Teresa did have her camera with her and took this photo of Patti and me.

Teresa and I know each other from Prim Mart and met for the first time a few years ago. We were also roomies at the Prim Mart Convention in Harrisburg PA 2 years ago. I 'know' Patti from the Prim Mart forum and have been a follower of her blog for quite some time. Was so excited to finally get to meet her. Such sweet ladies! Patti said she had some candle tarts she wanted us to smell in her house (sweet potato pie - they smelled awesome and she gifted us each with one). As soon as I stepped inside her kitchen I had a sense of dejavu - I had seen this kitchen before! Patti lives in an old 1800's farmhouse that she and her husband are renovating. I fell in love with it! Anyway, back to the kitchen. I couldn't put my finger on why her kitchen was so familiar to me until Teresa pointed out that Patti had written about it on her blog almost 2 years ago. Her kitchen is huge with the highest ceiling I'd ever seen and 8 doors!!

When we left Patti's Brickhouse, Teresa took me to a place called Hornings Store. They sell Amish made furniture, bulk food, health food, kitchen gadgets and country/primitive style crafts. Wish we had one of those in Pittsburgh! Our next stop was the Meadowbrook Gourd Farm. Gourd heaven! I bought 3 pear/pumpkin shaped gourds. Would have loved to buy more but moths were starting to fly out of my purse....getting low on spending money! lol Teresa and I had a late lunch at Panera Bread and then it was time to meet back up with Tom and Teresa had to get home too. Such a lovely day! Thank you again Teresa!!

Now for that 'chuckle'. Tom and I were just finishing up breakfast at Dienners restaurant before heading to Carlisle. I just took a drink of my coffee when all of a sudden I gasped and coffee shot out of my mouth AND MY NOSTRILS!!! I don't know if Tom said something funny or if I just happened to need to cough with my mouth full..............but it FLEW! Tom said I was like a fire breathing dragon, only instead of fire I was spewing coffee. How embarrassing! And there were no more napkins on our table, I was reaching for something white and he says 'NO NOT THE BILL!!' I covered my nose with my hands which was still dripping coffee and made it to the ladies room without running into anyone.

Sexy Chicken
The last 2 years I've been gradually getting my hair cut shorter and shorter. See how short it is in the photo with Patti above? Well as of Friday it's even shorter. I wanted something more stylish yet easy peazy to take care of. I moose it up a little blow dry it with my fingers and use a little manipulator cream, hair spray and I'm done. Tom HATES it. We went to a party at our daughter Carey's house last night and I got several compliments on it. One of the women is herself a hairdresser, has seen me a number of times with my hair in different lengths and said she just loves this new cut/style, make me look chic and sexy. I told her " will you please tell my husband that!!" So now he calls me Sexy Chicken. LOL

I'm working on a Mammy shelf sitter this morning and later this afternoon my daughter is driving me up to Meadville, PA. My brother's wife's mother passed away on Friday and we are going to the viewing.

Happy Easter

Tom and I are away for the Holiday. We are in Atlantic City for a few days then will drive to Lancaster PA for a day so I can do some shopping and then on to Carlisle PA for the Spring Carlisle Car Show for two days and then heading home. Our going away was a bit of a jolt to our 'daughters' because I've always held Easter dinner at our home. The two oldest adjusted quite well and made other plans but our youngest, Nicki ( who is 29) was quite upset. LOL She likes routine and tradition and we upset that , we 'ruined Easter' this year. She certainly hopes we don't plan to make THIS a new tradition. We won't. Easter just happened to fall on the weekend before the Carlisle Show which we go to twice a year in the Spring and Fall. We also just happened to get 3 nights comp from the Tropicana in Atlantic City for Easter Weekend which is only about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Carlisle. Nicki and her boyfriend are going to his parents for Easter dinner, but she says it just isn't the same.
Yesterday was a nice day, we walked the boardwalk for about a mile or so. I bought a new pair of sunglasses at the Dollar Store and a 'gold' chain necklace at the $10 Store. When we got back to our room, one of the ear holders fell off my glasses that had a Foster Grant sticker on them LOL and I'm certain my necklace will turn green before the week is over.
We are having our Easter dinner at PF Changs tonight in the casino. Does feel weird not having our traditional Ham dinner with all the trimmings. I hear ya Nicki.

My sister Diane fell in love with my polka dot peeps and wants me to make her some in a painted box. Mine is shown in an old cheesebox for display. She isn't into prims so I am sponge painting a cheesebox for her in purple, off white, green and pink. I'll post a picture when they are finished. The box is drying and I still have to make the peeps.

I was supposed to be cleaning yesterday......yeah right. All I got finished was the computer room. ;P I kept sneaking back to crafting, that's how I got the bunny above sewed up and stuffed and finished it off this morning. Sigh, so now I really do have to get the bathroom cleaned, I've procrastinated long enough.

Anyone want to help? I'll send Tom out for some wine :)

Awesome Two Days

Sales just seem to come in spurts for me. Dry for a few weeks or months and then I get a sale, and then all of a sudden I get more sales the same week. Crazy! But it makes me smile!
I sold 6 more of my vintage tins yesterday and today my Polka Dot Chicks sold. I have some more cut out and wasn't planning to make any more ....but I'm going to go ahead and sew them up and stuff them tonight. Maybe I'm on a lucky streak!
The 3 oldest grandkids spent the night last night and I took them to the matinee this afternoon to see HOP. It was a really cute movie, we all enjoyed it. It's just a darn shame how much it costs to take your kids/grandkids to the movies anymore. For the matinee it cost $6.50 each ( a discount of $3 for an adult, no discount for kids). I took them to the dollar store beforehand and let them pick out candy and pop - that cost $10 ( I don't want to think how much it would have cost to buy all that in the theater!) Tickets - $26 and then popcorn ( at the movies - gotta have theater popcorn with butter!) another $6. The important thing is the kids enjoyed the day out with Gramma, makiing memories. Gramma enjoyed it too!

PS - wanted to share this, I thought it was comical. My 4 year old grandaughter is a cuddler. At one point during the movie she wanted to snuggle with me and cuddle but it was near impossible with the theater seats so she settled for holding my hand instead. After a couple minutes she lifted my hand and started kissing it and then I felt her nibbling on my thumbnail like she was going to chew it off!! LOL Kid couldn't be hungry after all the popcorn and candy she consumed!

Polka Dot Peeps

These are the chicks I made from the polka dot fabric I picked up at Joanne's.

I arranged them around a vintage gray granite ware bowl with a nest of Spanish moss and in the center of the nest is an unhatched egg. The chicks are waiting patiently for it to crack open so they can welcome their new little chick sibling.

Customer Sharing Photo Of Hanging Geese

Back in the Fall a customer, Robin Yetter, purchased these two prim geese from me. A couple days ago Robin sent me this photo so I could see how great they look with her fireplace. She says this is a temporary spot, as she wants them on the fireplace itself. Her brother accidentally spilled a can of paint thinner and some paint on one of the geese, so she had to paint the neck black. Still looks great.

Prim Fabric Eggs

These are a few of the fabric eggs I made from the plastic eggs in the previous post. I love how they turned out.

These ones are actually for sale on my selling blog and the Spanish moss and gray graniteware pie pan they are displayed in are included.

I also added another prim bunny with quilted pocket

I only have one available, but am willing to make more if anyone is interested. I didn't want to make a bunch of them and be stuck with them if they didn't sell so close to Easter.

I'm going to be making some more Easter chicks from the polka dot fabric I bought and then I plan to start working on a few stitchery projects.

I had a lovely day with my two youngest grand daughters Bella and Ayden. Ayden is four and after she got her cuddle time with Gramma she wanted to play on my 'puter. She likes to play on the doll maker sites and build a house sites. Bella, her 17 mo. old cousin couldn't get enough cuddling today. She didn't want me out of her sight since she didn't get to see me last week.

A Few Of My Goodies

I didn't find a lot to buy this trip, but these are the few things I did pick up.

You're probably wondering why in the world I bought plastic Easter eggs on my trip, lol. It was because at Hobby Lobby ( which we don't have here in Pittsburgh) they were priced at 39 cents a bag! I'm going to make some prim fabric eggs with these.

I'm going to make some more baby chicks with these fabrics.

I'm going to cut up this quilt fabric to use for pockets in some of my craft projects.

I found this twin size quilt in an antique store marked at $28, reduced to $20 and then there was a half off sale, so I got it for $10. There are some really badly torn areas, but that's ok, because I plan on cutting it up anyway. I was tickled to find this.

I'm going to make some fabric Cinnamon buns for this tin pan.

A beautiful crock I bought for $20 at the Advertising show we went to Chicago for. It was marked at $25 and the vendor gave it to me for $20 so he wouldn't have to take it back home. Lucky me! :)

I'm starting to feel better again. Still coughing a lot and living on cough drops. Still seem to have some wheezing at night, probably from lying down and having the congestion build up. I suspect I had/have bronchitis. My doctor isn't in today, so if I'm still feeling out of sorts tomorrow I will give her a call. Thank you for all the well wishes I've received. xoxox

Day 6 Of Trip

Not going so well for me the past 3 days. I'm sick again with the same darned thing I had a few weeks ago. I have that constant tickle in my throat that won't let up and cough drops and Chloraseptic spray don't help all that much. Post nasal drip that upsets my stomach. Today is the first day that I didn't feel up to leaving the hotel room. Was supposed to meet Tom down at the Convention center at 9:30 this morning, but I've been throwing up so had to call him and let him know I wasn't coming. He's been up and out since 5 am at the outdoor vendor sales. I'm going to go back to bed for a little while and hopefully will feel up to going out a little later. I HATE BEING SICK. And of course, just my luck, any other trip the maid doesn't come in to clean up until after 3 pm and this morning she knocks at the door at 8:00. I told her to come back later. She just might have to clean up around me, 'cause I'm not getting out of bed if I'm still sick.

Day 2 & 3 Of Trip

Sunday night, I found out that Karen, http://sadiessilkenthreads.blogspot.com/ lives only about 15 minutes from the Maumee Antique Mall where we shopped on Sunday ! Hopefully we will be able to hook up next time we are in Maumee ( in the Fall ) I would love to meet her in person!
Monday morning before we left Maumee, Tom took me to Joanne's so I could use a few of my 40% off coupons. Darn my luck, so much of the fabric was already on sale, so I had to use my coupons on two spools of white thread and a packet of embroidery needles. I had bought a yard of a quilted fabric I really liked, reg. price $19.99. So I figured I could use my 50% off coupon on that. Turns out THAT was on sale too and couldn't use it. I had to pay $13.99 Bummer. I did buy some cute pastel polka dot fabric to make some more lil bunnies.
We drove on to South Bend Indiana, did some antiquing there. I found a pretty beat up quilt that was priced first at $28, reduced to $20 and then the booth had a sign up that everything was 50% off - so I got a cutter quilt for $10 bucks! Yay me!!!!! I was so excited. I NEVER find cutter quilts that affordable.
Went to Applebees for dinner and spend the night. This morning we drove on to LaPorte IN. We arrived at 10:30. The shop was closed. The sign on the front door said they'd be open at 10 am. We waited a good 20 minutes and no sign of anyone there. We pulled out and drove around the corner, found another antique shop, it was also closed. What the heck!! We found two other stores we were interested in looking in and they were also closed! It turns out we were still on Pittsburgh time and LaPorte is an hour behind us, LOL. I can't believe it took at least 30 minutes for us to figure that out.! Duh. We waited, and got to visit all the stores that opened at 10 am INDIANA time but didn't find anything here either. Still love looking around though.

We arrived in St. Charles IL at 2 pm this afternoon. Just chilling right now and will be going to Gino's East for dinner for some Chicago deep dish pizza!

Day 1 Of Trip

Before we got on the PA turnpike this morning, we stopped off at Trader Jacks flea market. It was a beautiful morning, sunny, no wind and a good amount of vendors. I didn't find anything but Tom was happy to pick up an old antifreeze water can from a gas station that he is going to redo and resell. An hour and a half later we were in Ravenna Ohio at the AAA antique mall. Neither of us found anything there. That's not entirely true, I found several things I was interested in, but the prices were higher than I could pay. Two hours later we are in Maumee OH at the Maumee Antique mall. Tom had no luck here, but I bought 3 gray granite pans and an old semi rusty muffin/cupcake pan that holds 8 muffins.
We had dinner at Red Lobster. I ordered a Mango Mai Tai YUMMMM my first one, coconut shrimp, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. We are spending the night here in Maumee and in the morning will head on to an antique mall in Michigan City, IN.
We did run into some rain in Ohio after we left Ravenna, but I was snoozing and missed it, lol.

PRIM BUNNY WITH QUILTED POCKET CUPBOARD TUCK

I just finished up this cute, simple, prim style bunny cupboard tuck with quilted pocket this morning.

The pocket is filled with some Sweet Annie and burgundy and mustard pip berries. The pattern is by TRP.

Measures 9 inches high by 5 inches wide. I listed it on my selling blog if anyone is interested.

My grandkids 'got me' yesterday with their April Fool's joke on Gramma. They get here at 5:30 am and fortunately ( for me ) they go right back to sleep until it's time to wake them for school. After I got them tucked in and settled the two older kids said "Gramma!! There's a stink bug on the ceiling!!" Knowing there is NO WAY they are going to be able to sleep with it up there I start off to get a paper towel to scoop it up with and they shout APRIL FOOLS!! They are giggling hysterically because I fell for it. They know how much I hate those darned things too. Crazy kids. lol Did anyone 'get' you?

Tom and I are leaving tomorrow morning for our bi-annual trip to Chicago. We'll be stopping at a lot of antique stores along the way. I am sooo ready for another road trip!

Watermelon - Work In Progress

A customer ordered two watermelons and while I HAVE made this before, this time both melons resemble loaves of bread.

Notice in the pattern photo ( Sweet Meadows Farm) how the ends of the melons are more 'pointed'? Try as I might, I couldn't get mine to do that! So I forged on in hopes these wouldn't look too awful.

Not too bad - at least from this end

Hubby said it looks like a melon, so I went ahead and painted on the seeds

Still doesn't look as good as Sweet Meadows Farms but I think they are passable.

I hunt up a box to put them in ( the customer didn't want the crows) and when I turned one over to inspect it ...........DARN I must have set it down on some white paint while the top paint was drying. At least it was an easy fix.

Reminder to self: When painting....DO NOT set your drink on the table!

What do you think the chances were that I wasn't paying attention and picked up the water glass that I use to dip my paint brush in and took a drink? :P

She's been stained with coffee and vanilla and her arms and legs are stuffed. She has tiny pink bows on her feet. Her pantaloons are made from white satin and tie with pink floss. She has a pretty pink net underskirt and her dress is pink with tiny black spots and black piping round the bottom. Then a lovely long bow from the top of the dress. Her wings are made from pink felt and sewn on her back. She has black button eyes and black stitched nose and mouth her whiskers are sisel.

This is Ms. Chocolate Bunny dressed in her finest Easter attire!

I made her out of muslin and then painted her a chocolate brown. She has painted eyes and lt.pink embroidered nose & mouth. Her dress is a pink floral cotton with a Battenburg collar and apron. I've placed a rusty pin holding a lace & rose on her collar and a rusty heart on her apron. She is holding a mini tin bucket that I've grungied up. In the bucket are 3 fabric eggs nestled in some Spanish moss.

I never knew what I would do with them,but when I saw your bunny, I knew I finally found what I wanted to use them for. Val shared her onion skin dyeing tip:

I started off by dyeing my unbleached cotton with onion skin dye.I just stewed my onion skin in water, just enough to nicely cover the skins and let it simmer till I liked the color. I made enough to fill a big mason jar so I put my dye in freezer containers and froze the remainder for later use. I don't know if you've ever tried this but is fun, fun, fun!!! I'm going to try red onion skin next and I imagine you can get stain from beets and blueberries as well, the possibilities are endless. The onion skins gave my fabric a beautiful yellowish brown color.

Colorful Baby Chicks

I love how these turned out. I decided not to prim them because I love how colorful they are, reminding me of the dyed baby chicks my siblings and I used to get at Easter time when we were kids. I've listed them on my selling blog KKL Primitives. They do come with the gray enamel pan.
I have a few more to make for my own Easter tree and then I'm on to another project. Feels good to be crafting again.
I'm also hemming up 8 drapes for my daughter. I knew I should have taught my daughters how to do some simple sewing, lol.

Teddy Bear Challenge Results - 2010

I wanted to share the 'results' of my Teddy Bear Challenge that I hosted on my Prim Patterns 'n Handmades blog last year. It was a busy time of the year with craft shows so I didn't have as many participants as I would have liked, but was thrilled with the finished bears that were submitted. "My bee skep is made from a round styrofoam ball cut to shape and wrapped in a golden colored yarn. My bees are made from navy beans with the wings cut from a plastic lid and painted white to show up in the picture but they are really cute left clear as well".

Val used both the smaller and larger head and submitted 2 bears - aren't they CUTE? !!

"Here is my second bear made from the revised head pattern. he's bee catching with his bug net which I made from a wire frame and a cheese cloth net. He's sitting on a wood stump gathered from the wood pile out back. His little body is made from tan colored flannel".

Easter Tree & Baby Chicks

I left my bottle brush tree up after Christmas with the intention of making Valentine ornies to go on it and that never happened. So I thought I would leave it up for Easter. I purchased some cute Easter Bunny metal rim hang tags from eBay and hung them on the tree and picked up some cute little styrofoam eggs with glitter from the Dollar Store to hang. I was searching for something else to add to the tree and came across a blog that had the cutest little baby chicks. I had left a message asking if the pattern was the bloggers, as I would have purchased it. She posted my message but never answered it, so I did a search and never did find a pattern exactly like the chicks, so I went ahead and drew out the basic shape myself and made them. If anyone knows whose original chick idea this is, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due. Thanks!
I was going to prim these up but since the eggs on the tree are brightly colored I decided not to.

Are you old enough to remember when live baby chicks used to be dyed pink, blue, purple, etc?
I'm going to pick up some fabric this weekend to make some colored chicks too. These will be hung on the tree, but since I've only made three so far, I just stuck them in a basket for the photo.

1776 Americana Prairie Doll With Sheep

Well, here she is as promised. So glad I felt well enough to finish her up this morning. I actually feel pretty good today, keeping my fingers crossed that whatever it is I have/had is gone for good!

Crafting Again

I'm working on another Americana Prairie doll today. Her apron & bonnet are in the oven drying and I still have to make her sheep to hold. I'll post a pic when she's finished.
On Monday I started to FINALLY feel 'well' again. I went to Curves for the first time in weeks that afternoon. Tuesday Tom and I went out for hot wings and beer for dinner. Thursday our youngest daughter and her boyfriend took us out to dinner to a really nice restaurant. Yesterday the temperature was almost 70 degrees and just beautiful, but I started feeling very tired again. Didn't think too much about it, just enjoyed the day. The 3 older grand kids spent the night last night and my plan was to take them to the park this afternoon. I awoke at 6 am and the sneezing and runny nose started up again and I have gone through 3 rolls of toilet paper blowing my nose and it's only 1 pm, my nose will fall off if this keeps up! No way do I even feel like leaving the house. The kids did go out front to play for a short time but came back in within 15 minutes because it's too cold ( 46 degrees - big difference from yesterday!) so they aren't disappointed that I'm not taking them to the park after all.
Tom woke up early this morning and decided to go to the Flea Market, in the hopes that since yesterday was so warm, that vendors might be set up. There were a few, and he bought a lighted M & M's ice cream sign to resell. I always tell him to be on the lookout for things I can use in my crafting, and he says he looks, but I don't always believe him, lol.
I don't have the grand kids next Saturday, so I'll probably go out with him.

11 Days - Still Sick

Just when I thought I was starting to feel better, I got ANOTHER head cold. My nose was running like a faucet all day yesterday. I went through three rolls of toilet paper! My nose feels like it's swollen 3 times it's normal size. Ugh.
Today, my daughter Deana and I are hosting our Bunco club at my house. I'm making shredded beef on hard rolls with provolone cheese, potato cheese casserole and salad. For dessert we're having chocolate lava cake with French vanilla ice cream and banana split dessert. Sangria, white Zinfindel and Blackberry Merlot as well. If the wine doesn't make me forget my head cold, I might as well give it up.
Tom finished painting the kitchen on Sunday, windows and blinds and curtains are clean. I cleaned the inside and outside of the refrigerator and 'tried' to clean the inside of my oven. I used two different oven cleaners and neither has taken off the baked on gunk that is lying on the bottom. Gross.
The bathroom is all spic and span and the only two rooms I have to Spring clean now is our bedroom and the 'computer room' and then I can get back to crafting!
I'll just be starting on Easter projects when everyone else has moved on to Summer!

NASTY Virus

Today is day #6 that I've been sick. I am feeling somewhat 'better' but still coughing and have both head and chest congestion. I thought I had the flu, but there is a virus going around and I'm told it has to just take it's course. My symptoms started off with a runny nose and sneezing and then developed into an irritating tickle in my throat that I just assumed was from post nasal drip ( nasty stuff). It was also scratchy but that tickle was getting the best of me, would bring tears to my eyes.
I was very tired and just wanted to lie down and rest. The cold went into my chest and my upper body began to ache all over. I may have had a low grade fever, I never did check my temp, but I did also get chills and bouts of sweating one night. I was so exhausted I could barely get off the couch. That's where I'd been sleeping, hoping to spare Tom, but we live in the same house, so his chances of 'getting it' are good whether I sleep on the couch or sleep in our bed. The germs are everywhere. Whether I have the flu or a virus, it's nasty stuff and I keep hearing that lots of people are getting sick and taking up to a week or two before they start feeling better.
So I called my Dr.'s office on Monday to ask her if a medicine called Benzonatate was something I could take along with all my other meds. I absolutely HATE when you can't talk to a PERSON and have to leave a voice message. I explained that I was coughing so hard that I would have to run to the bathroom to throw up. PLEASE get back to me to let me know if Benzonatate is something I can take and if it is to PLEASE call it it into my pharmacy. Today is Saturday and I have not heard one stinkin' word. I called the Pharmacy a couple times this week and nothing has been called in. You can be sure the next time I go the Dr., she is going to hear about this face to face. I am so angry.

Last week a friend emailed to say she noticed I hadn't posted here for a while and was wondering if all was ok. I honestly didn't have anything to write about, at least nothing interesting. I have not been crafting, not because I don't want to, I just haven't had time. Tom and I painted the living room last weekend and this coming weekend we are painting the kitchen.
My weekdays are filled with watching the two youngest grandkids, ages 4 and 16 mo. They don't take long naps anymore, lol. My evenings are spent catching up on laundry, dishes, Curves and watching movies with Tom. We love our movies. Speaking of Curves, a couple weeks ago they introduced Zumba along with the workout machines, I've done it twice so far, and boy is it a WORKOUT! I do like it, but I have to do it at my own pace due to my heart disease. The first time I tried to keep up with the 19 year old instructor and almost passed out. Duh . . . I've got 39 years on her, what was I THINKING?!! My second class, I paced myself and made sure I had a bottle of water with me and it went very well. There is a class tomorrow night, and I'm hoping I'll feel well enough to go. Have been sick the past two days with a nasty throat tickle, coughing, body aches and fatigue.
I left my small bottle brush Christmas tree up ( bare since the Holidays ) with the idea that I would decorate it for Valentines. That never happened. However, I have started to decorate it for Easter. I bought some vintage bunny round hanging tags and some small glittery foam eggs. I hope to make some itty bitty bunnies to hang from it too.
Just wanted you to know I am still hangin' in there, playing catchup reading many of the prim blogs I follow in the hopes I will be inspired to find my MOJO.

Back Home & Happy Valentines

Tom and I got back home from Atlantic City yesterday evening. Had such a great time, was good to get away but it's nice to be back home.
We had our caricatures done by an artist from Philly. The artist asked us what 'theme' we wanted. The couple who had theirs done before us had a football theme, he was a football player and she was a cheerleader. I wanted something a little more romantic and this is what he come up with. We love the way it turned out and Tom is going to go out and buy a frame for it.

I'm getting anxious to start crafting again, so going to start sorting through my patterns to see what I'm in the mood to create.

Greetings From Atlantic City

Tom and I left for our mid-winter vacation to Atlantic City on Saturday. We drove as far as King Of Prussia and spent the night. Next morning we only had a one and a half hour drive to Atlantic City.
Our good friends John & Teddi flew in from Florida to join us. This is the first year in 7 years that they have not driven with us since they are now 'Snow Birds'.
Sunday the weather here was awesome for February. We sat on the boardwalk and talked for hours without a coat on. The sun was warm, no wind blowing. Yesterday we walked the boardwalk but did need jackets as the temp was starting to drop. We saw Marc Antonelli sing at the Tropicana. He is a 23 year old tenor with a beautiful voice. Neither Tom or I are opera lovers but we did enjoy his singing of a song from the Phantom Of The Opera.

We had planned on walking down to the Hilton this afternoon but it is cold and very windy and a gust of wind almost blew Tom away, LOL so we decided to stay in at the Tropicana all day and after dinner we're all going to the IMAX to see 'Tron'.

We have 2 more full days.

Finally Started Painting & New Listing

Last weekend Tom and I painted the dining room and hallway. We had a difficult time choosing a color as the colors I was considering, did not look good with the carpet scrap I took along. We decided on Glidden's Dapper Tan. We are going to use this in the living room as well. Photo show carpet and wall color lighter than it actually is. The register is white - so you will notice the wall is not white.

Photo above shows the contrast between wall and ceiling, which is white.

The wall around the corner is the living room and is still white. Up in the corner of the doorway you can see some of the tan paint. We're going to start on the living room in 2 more weekends.

It took us 7 hours just to tape, cut and paint one coat in the DR. We had to cut 5 doorways in the hallway and 1 in the DR. What a job! Luckily it did not need two coats.

We are showing our age, lol. 10 years ago we could have had both rooms done with two coats in the same amount of time.

Hubby's Retirement Party

We pulled off the SURPRISE! Tom thought we were going to our friends/next door neighbor's 30th wedding anniversary surprise party. Friday night I walked down to his sister's house and she helped me put together some food. Normally when I go down, I'm not gone longer than an hour, hour and a half. That night I was gone 3 hours and I was sure he'd wonder why I was gone so long. Turns out he fell asleep on his chair watching TV and never knew how long I'd been gone! Saturday morning he thought I was going to a craft show with his sister and that I was going to get a pedicure afterwards with one of our daughters. Really, I had gone to the hall to set up and decorate with some family members and friends.
Everyone was already at the hall when we arrived at 7 pm. Tom was supposed to go through the door first and the DJ was going to play Take This Job And Shove It. Tom had his hand on my lower back and nudged me through the door first. But it worked out well, because I got to see his face when everyone began clapping for him. There was no way he suspected anything, his face showed shock and he was just overwhelmed. It was GREAT!!!

We had tons of good food rigatoni, stuffed cabbages, hot sausage sandwiches, hoagie salad, linguini salad, potato cheese casserole, Chinese coleslaw, mandarin orange jello dessert, cookies, cake. We got a lot of compliments from guests saying it was like being at a wedding.

Bella had a wonderful time playing in a bucket of ice.

I'm waiting for my girls to send me some more photos. This is all I have so far.

Yikes. A few weeks ago I received my giveaway goodies that I won from Tolentreasures. These are absolutely beautiful!!!!

Her friend Donna sent me an awesome grubby candle that she'd made to be included with my winnings from Tolentreasures. It arrived a couple weeks later. The problem is I want to thank Donna for my candle, but I cannot remember which blog is hers. Here is a photo of her ( my) wonderful candle if that helps. It's really so neat, I don't think the photo does it justice. AND it smells so good! I love it! If you know Donna's blog name - please let me know so I can thank her properly!

Hubby took me shopping today. I had a $25 gift certificate for Joann Fabrics that one of my lovely daughters gave me for Christmas. I wanted to spend it! I had a couple 50% off coupons but was only able to use one of them, as most everything in the store was already on sale and you can't use the coupons on sale items. I bought a 10# box of polyester filling for a little under $20. ( I had been hoping to use one of the coupons on it, lol) and I finally picked up some pink flannel to use for my 4 year old gd's monkey. Her older sister wants a brown one. BTW my sister tells me that her grandson LOVED his monkey!
Shhhh hubby Tom does not know this, but my daughters and I have planned a SURPRISE retirement party for him next Saturday. Of course I need a new outfit to wear so I asked him to take me to Walmarts while we were out. I did find a pair of jeans and a new top that I fell in love with and was looking for a new pair of black dressy clogs to go with it. Found nothing there so we drove on to Kmart and again, no shoes that I liked. But I did find 3 more tops that I loved and they were all reduced - got all 3 for $16.00! I will be taking all new clothes to Atantic City in February. I digress from the topic, lol sorry. To get Tom to the party, he thinks we are going to our next door neighbors surprise 30th anniversary party. They've been married 32 years actually and I do not know when their actual anniversary is, but Tom doesn't know either, so it works!
Hopefully everyone will be there a half hour before we arrive. When we walk in my daughter is going to have the DJ she hired play 'Take This Job And Shove It'. I hope she knows someone who has a video camera. I'll have to mention it to her.
I added several new items to my selling blog today.
Tom and I are going out for wings for dinner in a few hours - I am loving his retirement! Hee hee we go out at least twice a week now!

Too Funny

Many of you know that my DH Tom had a very bad fall on ice on his last day of work before retiring from the Post Office. Our eldest daughter also works for the Post Office as a supervisor at the General Mail Facility, where no one actually 'knows' her dad there and as far as our daughter was concerned, no one knew WHO her dad is. The Post Office has a grapevine hundreds of miles long.
Do you remember as kids the game called 'Telephone'? That's where one person tells another a 'secret' and passes it along, one by one. By the time it comes around to the last person, the secret is completely out of context, and usually has nothing what-so-ever to do with the original 'secret'. It's kind of like that in the Post Office. Word gets around very fast, from carrier to carrier, from carrier to clerk, from supervisor to supervisor, from carrier to customer on route, from post office to post office, from customer to customer. People are coming up to our daughter to ask how her father is doing, they heard he's still in the hospital, or that he has 2 broken legs, or that one of the 'higher ups' is giving him trouble about retiring since his fall, or he had a leg amputated.....it goes on and on and on and on.......each person either adds to the story or takes something away from it making it worse than it actually was/is. Tom just laughs and laughs. He's going down as a 'legend'. I just seriously hope someone doesn't come up to our daughter to give his/her condolences.

It's so weird how my items sell in 'spurts' sometimes. I can go for a month or two without one sale, and then out of the blue I will have a streak and sell multiple items, sometimes to the same buyer, sometimes to different buyers. It's just never 'steady sales'.
How does it go for you?
I did not renew my EZshoppe in December. The yearly fee was reasonable, but I did not make one single sale from it in the entire year. Anything I sold was from my selling blog, Etsy and eBay.
Tom is doing very well. His shins are still very sore but he's been out walking 3 miles every day.
We have not heard anything re: the other letter carrier who is/was in a coma after his fall on ice.
I don't know if that's good or bad.

Another Prairie Doll & Newest Update On Hubby

I just finished up this prairie doll ( my 3rd) a short time ago and listed it on my selling blog.

I'm also going to list her on Etsy & eBay to see how she does.

I think I'm going to make one more to include in a box of items I am going to send on consignment to Louisianna. Americana items do well there so she is going to be holding a flag.

Tom went to the hospital this morning to have his injured arm Xrayed. It is NOT broken/fractured. The arm bone and surrounding tissue was badly bruised and he'll be sore for a while longer but the splint is gone and he can finally start to enjoy his retirement.

Here's a scary true story that happened to another letter carrier who works with Tom who fell on ice the same morning as Tom did. This guy fell on his own sidewalk in front of his home, on his way to work. He never made it to work, and when his wife found him, he was unconscious. Four days later and he's still unconscious and has had 5 heart attacks. He is in his early to mid 50's.

I feel so badly for that family as I know how I'd be feeling right now if that had been Tom.

Hubby Update

Tom did have a concussion. Poor guy was so confused when he had called me yesterday morning. He kept telling me he cut his ankles, but it was both shins. One shin could have used a few stitches, but he refused to have any. So the cuts where cleaned and bandaged. He also told me that his head hit the manifold. I have no idea what a manifold is so I didn't question it until he got home. He doesn't remember telling me that and his head hit the metal steps of his postal truck.
He also had a huge welt on his back right beneath the shoulder blades where his back struck the bar that closes the truck door. His left arm is pretty swollen, as are his fingers. He has a splint and ace bandage on that and has to go back to the hospital on Monday morning for an Xray. Sounds to me like he fractured something.
He took a pain pill before going to bed so had a pretty restful night. He's sore this morning, but doing much better than I had expected.

Hubby Had An Accident

My hubby called me from work around 9:30 this morning. He was still at work, loading his truck with mail when he slipped on ice and hit his head on the truck's manifold. He then slid under the truck slicing up both legs. His wrist was also injured. He was taken to the ER where they did an MRI on his head, and X rayed his back, legs and wrist. I'm still waiting to hear on the results. I wanted to come out to the hospital but Tom insisted I stay home, that the roads were too icy and he didn't want to have to worry about me.
Today is his very last day of work. Friday, Saturday and Sunday is his long weekend and Monday he will be officially retired. Last night as we were watching TV I told him he should call off today. He has a lot of sick leave accumulated, and he won't lose any of it. He refused, saying that the PO was short of help and blah, blah, blah.
This morning I was thinking of how lucky he's been all these years, no serious dog bites, no injuries that required going to the ER. Then on his very last day BAM!! :(

Finally Finished The 4 Crow Seasons

I was bound and determined to get these finished before Christmas, and I just finished up the witch a few minutes ago. Whew. Now that they are finished I can do what I'm supposed to be doing and that's cleaning! LOL Unless I decide to list these on my selling blog first............nah, I better get some work done first, this day is FLYING by.

Won The Primitive Outhouse Giveaway!

I was very excited to get an email last night from Jan of The Primitive Outhouse notifying me that my name was drawn for her awesome painted ice skate. I got to choose whether I wanted it in red or blue - tough decision because they are both beautiful, but I went with red. Can't wait to display it with my other Christmas decorations!

I'm working on Sue Allemand's ( Palette Primitives) darling Crow Seasons pattern. The bunny is finished, just have to work on her crow today after the baby takes her nap. Fingers crossed.

My bunny's dress turned out longer than the one shown on the pattern, but it's still cute.

I'll post another photo when the other 3 are finished.
